Flight Change Policy

24-Hour Risk-Free Period

You can cancel or change your reservation 24 hours after making the reservation, but this comes at no cost under the condition that the reservation was made at least 7 days before the departure. This is applicable to every type of fare, including Basic Economy.

Fare Difference

In case your new flight is more costly, you will have to pay the difference in price. In case your new flight is cheaper, you can get a travel credit that you can use in the future.

Same-Day Changes

• Change to an earlier or a later same-day flight the same day for a flat fee. MileagePlus Premier members are exempt from this fee.
• Same-Day Standby: You can also get on the standby list at no charge, and you will be notified in case seats are available.

Schedule Changes by United

In case of the cancellation or a considerable delay of your flight by United, you can get a free re-booking or a full refund. To a domestic U.S. flight, a delay of 3 hours or above is considered significant, whereas in international flights, a delay of 6 hours is considered significant.

Flight Cancellation Policy

Free Cancellation for 24 Hours

You can cancel within 24 hours of purchase a flight destined at least 7 days before the flight, and you will get a full refund.

Refundable Tickets

Refundable, Flexible and higher-class fares. The refund is returned to the payment mode.

Non-Refundable Tickets

The majority of United Airlines' premium economy fares cannot be refunded in cash. You are more likely to get a flight credit to use on a future United Airlines booking instead, subject to the rules of the ticket.

Baggage Policies

Carry-On:

• Basic Economy passengers may only carry a single personal item, unless they are MileagePlus Premier members or Star Alliance Gold members.

Checked Baggage:

• Economy: Basic Economy does not typically come with free checked baggage; most Economy fares include one checked bag of up to 23 kg.
• Premium Plus: Two bags of up to 23 kg each.
• Business and First Class: Two baggage of 32 kg each. Certain First Class fares across borders might have three bags of up to 32 kg.
• Military Perks: U.S. military personnel who are on active duty are free to carry extra bags.

Extra Charges:

Baggage that is larger or heavier than 158 cm in total size, or that is heavier than 23 kg in United Airlines Economy/Premium Plus or heavier than 32 kg in Business/First, will incur additional costs based on the route.

Mobile and Online Check-In

• This can be purchased 24 hours to 1 hour before the departure.
• Check in with the United app or on united.com on your tablet, computer, or smartphone.

Unaccompanied Minor (UMNR) Policy

United Airlines UMNR cares about the comfort and safety of children travelling alone. 

Age Group Validity:

• Unaccompanied Minor (UM) service is mandatory for unaccompanied children aged between 5 and 14 years of age.
• The service is optional in the case of children between 15 to 17 years.
• Children under the age of five years must not be allowed to venture out without an adult who is 18 years old or more.

Booking Procedure:

• Book the UM service on the United site, mobile application or call centre.
• On booking, give detailed information about the parent/guardian who will drop off the child and the one who will collect the child.

Required Documents:

• Passport or valid travel ID.
• Finished Unaccompanied Minor travel form, including contact details of the guardian.
• Any travel documents and visas needed to enter the international flights.

Restrictions and Fees:

• The service applies to direct flights only, on United or United Express.
• This is not inclusive of the ticket price, but the fee is only 150 USD per child, one way.
• Parents/guardians should stay at the airport until the flight has taken off, and the specified adult is there to receive.
